God’s desire for us is to be successful in all the things we do. If we have a look through the Scriptures we will find clear evidence of this. The first command God gave to man after creating him was to go and be a success in life.
“Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”” Genesis 1:28 NLT
And this was evident in the life of Adam. He had a wife, a successful job and a good relationship with God. He also had joy and peace, he had everything a man would want in life, Adam was happy.
“The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.
Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the LORD God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’”” Genesis 2:15, 18, 21-23 NLT
However, a problem arose, man fell. From that point on it was difficult for man to attain success without divine intervention.
The fall of man has not changed Gods desire for man to be successful, he wants you and I to live a maximised life in the totality of Him. He wants us to be a Total Man or woman as the case may be.
What do I mean by this?
For us to maximise our life we have to be able to manage ourselves, relationships and resources we own or is available to us and in its totality. The aim of this post is to inspire, inform and challenge you to be the total man who God intended.
A total man should
- Know where he is:
- A man who does not take account of where he is, will not be successful
- Know where he is going:
- He should have a vision
“When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.” Proverbs 29:18 NLT
“Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7 NLT
“Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3 NLT
- When you get a vision it will trouble your heart
- It never leaves your mind and it won’t go away
- Until you do something about it.
“So the king asked me, “Why are you looking so sad? You don’t look sick to me. You must be deeply troubled.” Then I was terrified, but I replied, “Long live the king! How can I not be sad? For the city where my ancestors are buried is in ruins, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”” Nehemiah 2:2-3 NLT
- Overcome procrastination: a successful man is time conscious
- Don’t put of what you can do today to tomorrow
- learn to appropriate time
- work carefully
- take advantage of time
- determine what matters and invest time in it
- learn to seize opportunities
- Do what he needs to do to succeed
- be successful you must be ready to push boundaries
- you must be obedient to Gods word
- you must be able to hear God speak and do what he says
- Maintain good relationship
- The most important relationship man can have is with God
- I read somewhere that the best things in life are not
- Happiness is not dependent on what we own;
- it lies in relationships, and the first relationship you need is with God
- because all blessing in life come from Him
- Be Diligence
- The bible says a lot about our need to be diligent.
“A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” Proverbs 13:4 NIV
“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” Proverbs 10:4 NIV
“Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.” Proverbs 22:29 NIV
- Be Joyful
- Too many people don’t enjoy the journey because they are waiting for the destination
- life is too short to allow sadness
- If we take notice we find that what we desire and enjoy is increasingly in line with what God wants for us?
